Libero Istituto Universitario Per Stranieri

The Italian Institute of Culture in Naples founded, with the consular ratification of several countries of the world, a Free University Institute for Foreigners (among the very few in Italy), managed by Roberto Pasanisi, in the metropolitan area of Naples, cultural capital of the South of Italy, with the aim of spreading the knowledge of the Italian culture and civilization, in its historical and present manifestations, from language to literature, from music to the figurative arts, from the philosophical and scientific thought to the usages and customs of the society.

L. I.U. P.S. Free University Institute for Foreigners “Francesco De Sanctis” Seasonal School of Training and Specialization in Italian Language and Culture January – April – July – September Naples, Italy of the ITALIAN INSTITUTE OF CULTURE IN NAPLES ICI ONLUS Prominent Organization of the Campania Region (L. R. 7/03) recognized by the Ministry of Culture (L. 534/96,art. 8) The idea The Italian Institute of Culture in Naples – ICII ONLUS (prominent Organization of the Campania Region, recognized by the Ministry of Culture) founded in January ,with the consular ratification of several countries of the world, a Free University Institute for Foreigners (among the very few in Italy), managed by Roberto Pasanisi, in the metropolitan area of Naples, cultural capital of the South of Italy, with the aim of spreading the knowledge of the Italian culture and civilization, in its historical and present manifestations, from language to literature, from music to the figurative arts, from the philosophical and scientific thought to the usages and customs of the society. The choice of time and places in the starting of such a project means interpreting a crucial moment in the western history, in the epochal passing to a new millennium and the possibility of a wide and meaningful body of users, as the South of Italy is, rich in tourist, natural and cultural resources and marked by continuous increasing migration flows. Not secondary, therefore, the purpose of creating economic and professional perspectives with interesting opportunities of development. The L. I.U. P.S. Aims to be the cultural deepening and reference point for the foreigners, living or not in Italy, who, with the fertile contribution of their ethnical and national identities, wish to compare among themselves and with the social and individual realities of our country. In this way, the first step to take seemed to be the organization of four seasonal courses: a Summer School (July), an Autumn one (September), a Winter one (December-January) and a Spring one (April) which, with the release of a Certificate of Training or Specialization, made easier the possibility of research and occupation in the field of the Italian language and culture (teaching in Italian schools abroad; lectureship at Universities, and so on), and, besides, with the availability of proper structures and qualified guides, made easier a pleasant tourist and cultural stay in one of the most well-known and fascinating lands in the world for artistic, landscape and bathing riches. The Institute The ITALIAN INSTITUTE OF CULTURE IN NAPLES (administrative office: via Bernardo Cavallino, 89,80131 Naples; [“la Cittadella”] –Italy-) was founded in January 1990 and is at present managed by Roberto Pasanisi. Since the beginning, the Institute has taken up, beside the main function (literary and cultural) a civil task, as debate and aggregation place of the so called “civil society”. With managerial and operative criteria based on an authentic and unconditioned democracy, the Institute ideally places on the line of action with the Frankfurt School (Adorno, Marcuse, Fromm, Löwenthal, Horkheimer). In fact, the Institute works, unlike other prestigious city structures, not from on high, but in direct contact with the city, the people, trying to give an answer, from the cultural point of view, to their demands and their need of civil and social reference points. In these perspectives, it places from a point of view of mutually useful collaboration with the other associations and cultural and social organizations. The Institute, couched in terms of a true and unconditional democracy and close, ideologically speaking, to the philosophical School of Frankfurt (Adorno, Marcuse, Löwenthal, Fromm, Horkheimer), is marked by an indiscriminate open-mindedness, to every factual proposal and collaboration from Organizations, associations and individuals from any Country, race and religion. Study Congresses, conferences, seminars, publishing introduction, poetry readings and round tables beat the yearly calendar of the Institute. Some of the initiatives are: the Permanent Laboratory of Contemporary Literature and Creative Writing; the Theoric-experience course in psychology (Art-therapy and Autogenic Training) of the C. I.S. A.T; four collections: two of poetry, edited by Roberto Pasanisi, one of fiction (by Giorgio Saviane) and one of essays (Franco Fortini). Official spokesperson of the Institute is the international review of poetry and literature Nuove Lettere, born in 1990 and high number printed all over the world. Divided into five sections (Poetry, Fiction, Essay, Reviews, News), it gives space, as trait d’union between the “academic reviews” and the “militant reviews”, besides the institutionalized names of the European literary panorama, also to talented authors still unknown, either because of their young age or because out of the cultural Establishment. With the same animus, that inspired and marked more that fifteen years of activity of the Institute, Roberto Pasanisi, with his collaborators, founded the Free University Institute for Foreigners “Francesco De Sanctis”. The Organization Course calendar and membership fees: The Training and Specialization Course in Italian culture and language preferably (but not necessarily) starts with the Summer School (first training cycle, followed by another two cycles under dates to establish) from the last week of june to the first one of august of each year (in which the first and last weeks are optional), at the L. I.U. P.S. Office in Naples (via Bernardo Cavallino, 89 [“la Cittadella”]; 80131 Naples (Italy). The lessons will last four hours a day (9.00-13.00 or 15.00-19.00), for a total of 24 hours a week. The afternoon, except the optional personal reading hours, is therefore free, as the whole day of sunday, with the opportunity to meet the other members of the Institute, on the occasion of recreational and cultural events supported by the Institute itself and the receptive structures of the city. On saturdays, 4-6 hours are dedicated to the guided tours. The membership fee of each Seasonal School (lasting one month with the possibility of another two optional weeks) includes a membership fee of 50 euros, as contribution and an yearly membership fee to the Institute of 550 euros (see the form): the total fee is of 450 euros for the so-called ‘second world’ countries; 350 euros for the so-called ‘third-world’ countries. The members of the Institute receive all the volumes published by the Institute and can actively take part in its initiatives, also with publications, in Italian and/or foreign language, on the international review Nuove Lettere. Besides, if started during the first Academic Year, the following two lesson cycles, to obtain the Specialization, will cost only 50 euros each for the respective membership fees. Any cost reductions and programme changes can be negotiate with whom, for personal reasons, does not want to follow the first or last week of the lessons Course of the first cycle. Some fellowships are also available for the worthiest students as well as Courses ad hoc for at least ten students. Didactic excursions On the six saturdays, during the summer School, they are planned as many excursions to re-discover the natural, historical and artistic beauties of the Neapolitan and Campania territory, with a careful and versatile guide of the teachers, which introduces into the magic marine or folkloristic or medieval and Renaissance atmospheres of our land. The guide and the city guide with the motor vehicles of the Institute are included in the fee, unlike the tickets for the out of city public transport. Unless there are unexpected changes of plan, by reason of force majeure, they are planned six excursions (historical, artistic, naturist and bathing).
